Shopping for Janitorial Supplies: Consider These Tips

Shopping for Janitorial Supplies: Consider These Tips

You are likely to use many cleaning supplies if you are involved in keeping your place of work clean and spotless.  After all, maintaining the hygiene standards of the establishment creates a positive and happy environment.  But cleaning a huge building is a demanding and challenging task.   The right process, tools and cleaning supplies are necessary to clean, sanitised, and disinfect an area meticulously.

With various products and knowing there are many options to choose from, remember these few simple tips next time you put that detergent, garbage bags and other cleaning supplies in the cart.

1.      Buy in Bulk

Most housekeeping supplies have a long shelf life thus ideal for purchasing wholesale. Detergent, glass cleaner, furniture polish and other materials are great to have on hand in large quantities – they will essentially never spoil and likely consistently be used.  Plus, buying in bulk means you save a little each time you use it.

 2.      Choose Generic

Unbranded products are generally cheaper than name brands with no real difference in quality or contents. Compare the ingredients and directions for use to confirm similarities. Often generic brands do the same trick as your branded one at a fraction of a price. Look for cleaning supplies at dollar stores and discount retailers

3.  Shop with Coupons

Coupon discounts and programs offer members reduced prices on a rotating selection of items, cleaning products included. Remember, though, to compare the costs after coupons, because often coupons won’t save you enough to make it a better deal than the generic.

 4.      Pick Reusable Products

Initially, it may cost a little bit extra but will get you out more use than similar one-and-done products.  Reusable supplies include gloves, towels, mop heads, dusters, and other supplies. Disposable items like paper towels are tossed to the trash, unlike cloth rags that can be used hundreds of times. Even better, it doesn’t have a laundry cost, since you can just throw a dirty handful into any load of laundry without altering the load a bit. A bit of a warning though: supplies should be replaced in the manufacturer recommended timeframe. Waiting to replace supplies could lead to bacterial growth and unsanitary conditions.
It is essential to use and buy only what you need. Simplify cleaning products you use in general.

  1. Use a single multi-purpose cleaner for multi-purpose surfaces instead of purchasing separate kitchen and bathroom counter cleaners.
  2. Read the directions on your household products and you might find that you’re using far too much – cutting back to half than the recommended amount will work just effectively.
  3. When you keep things consistently clean, you will need fewer products eventually. Regularly clean before things get dirty to avoid using extra products or treatments.
